What to Expect During Your Couple's Session With Me

When I was a kid, my mom and dad took my pictures all. the. time. I thought nothing of it. I loved posing and pretending to be a model. One thing I didn't realize until later in life, is that most people are extremely uncomfortable in front of the camera.
So, 5 years ago when I started by photography business... I did all the typical things you'd expect a photographer to do. "Look right here at me." "Big smiles." "Kiss." What I realized, was that the poses I was getting were stiff, awkward, and forced.
I knew there had to be a better way. My goal when capturing couples is to create portraits that are worth a thousand words. Portraits that tell the love story of the couple. Portraits that their grandkids can look at someday and say "Wow, grandma and grandpa were so in love."
When you have a couple's session with me, authentic, gorgeous portraits are promised. And here is exactly how I accomplish that:
1. I get to know you and your story. During our session, I love to get to know you. I get you laughing, talking, and comfortable. I want to hear how you met, how long you've been together, funny stories, and what you love about your partner. As we chat, you will forget you are in the middle of a portrait session. Feeling comfortable with your photographer is KEY.
2. I give you prompts. I'll be honest. I used to tell my clients to "act natural." Ugh. I cringe when I think about how I used to say that. The problem is, most people don't know how to just "act natural." Now, I give you prompts that will spark real, authentic connections. My prompts are different each session, and vary depending on each couple, how long you've been together, your ages, height differences, etc.

3. We laugh and we have FUN. This is my favorite part of couple's sessions. We always laugh. I like to think of a couple's session with me as an experience instead of a means to an end. Let me explain. I think most photographers shoot to get an end product. I want you to feel like the session itself was fun. I want you to feel on fire when you get in your car to go home, like you just had the time of your life and now you CAN'T WAIT to see the finished product.
You don't need a special occasion to have a couple's session. Sure, you can do an engagement session. But what about an anniversary session? A "just because we're in love" session? A "let's do something different for a date night" session?
BONUS TIP: GUYS --- Book your girl a surprise couple's session and watch her heart melt into a ginormous puddle. You can thank me later.
